Nikki Giovanni


Nikki Givanni was born in Knoxville Tennessee. She is a world-renowed poet, writer, commentator, educator and activist. In 1968, she graduated from Fisk University with honors. Givanni also published her first book of poetry, Black Talk, that same year. Giovanni has authored over some 30 books for both children and adults. Many of her books have received honors and awards including her autobiography Gemini. Giovanni is currently a professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
