James Baldwin

An American Poet, novelist, essayist, and activist born August 2, 1924, in Harlem, NY. Baldwin is best known for his book of essays "The Fire Next Time" and the novel "Go Tell it on the Mountain". He is widely considered one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century. His works explored race, sex, class, and religion among other social issues in America. Baldwin was also active in the American Civil rights movement despite spending much of his life in France. Baldwin continued to be a prolific writer most of his life and spent time as a college professor before his death in 1987.
