Ruth Ann Butler ,a native of Greenville South Carolina, is a graduate of Sterling High School and Benidect College. She taught in the public schools of Georgia and South Carolina for 18 years and worked for the Legal Services Agency of Western Carolina, Neighbors in Action, and the Appalachian Council of Governments. She is the founder of the Greenville Cultural Exchange in Greenville. The Cultural Exchange is a museum to preserve black history in the upstate of South Carolina. Butler is a skilled researcher and writer of family and church histories. She has successfully traced her own family history back to Africa. Butler has a passion for history. Her Goal in life is to be one of the best researchers and historians in the state of South Carolina and the Nation.
